Position Overview:
As our Waterway Scientist/Engineer, you will report directly to the Land and Waterway Management Team Leader. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects providing technical inputs and contributing to product delivery. You will be a part of a supportive and diverse team, which welcomes your contribution of ideas and provide solutions to help identify new opportunities; to assist with the growth of the Team and the wider Hydrobiology group of companies.
This role demands an innovative and enthusiastic approach to waterway processes and management, ideally with consulting nous. There is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to assist us in growing this component of the business.
Essential Skills & Experience Required:
- Demonstrated ability to understand and deliver solutions to a range of stream management challenges.
- Skills in the fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, catchment management, or soils disciplines.
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced capability to use remote sensing/spatial analysis.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork.
- Flexibility to become involved in a broad range of projects outside the field of geomorphology/ hydrology.
- Good communicator and team player.
Your application would also benefit from demonstrated skills in one or more of the following:
- Intermediate to advanced GIS knowledge.
- An understanding of machine-learning, predictive modelling, or algorithm-based solutions.
- The ability to work to deadlines and manage demands from multiple concurrent projects and overall service delivery.
- Skills in design and rehabilitation of waterways and/or stormwater management measures.
- Developed field skills, particularly waterway condition assessment and environmental monitoring techniques such as drone operation.
The following Education and Experience requirements will need to be demonstrated:
- Graduate qualifications in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Consulting experience is an advantage but not a prerequisite. We want to find an enthusiastic candidate who can demonstrate experience in, and awareness of, the other position prerequisites, and who fits in with our inclusive and energetic culture.
