Hydrobiology is proud to announce that our Greenfund is continuing to raise money for a variety of good causes. Our latest donation was to Great Barrier Reef Legacy, joining their Small Business Champion program. The GBR Legacy is a charity providing access and support for science on the reef by operating the reef’s only independent research vessel and supporting other research projects. Their most recent expedition discovered the first new species of coral in 30 years, among other important findings (Super Coral Expedition).
The money is being put to great use, being put towards setting up the first permanent drone and underwater photo transects at Low Isles, near Port Douglas. This is the original site of the 1928 GBR expedition, has experienced heavy bleaching and mortality, and is extremely important to Port Douglas tourism. It also has mangroves and is a significant bird breeding site. All footage and research will contribute to MangroveWatch‘s ongoing research.
The Greenfund is a Hydrobiology initiative that raises money for environmental charities based on the number of kilometres commuted by every employee using green transport methods. This includes walking, cycling, public transport, and any other specific method with those causing the least environmental harm (i.e. walking) resulting in the most $/km raised.
