Hydrobiology has kicked off a large multi-disciplinary oceanographic survey, spanning over 200 km of coastal waters off Espírito Santo, Brazil. Two survey vessels will collect superficial marine sediments using a range of techniques including traditional oceanographic corers and commercial divers. In addition, we are acquiring a suite of geophysical data to understand the transport and deposition of sediments within the study area. The survey, which is expected to take up to 6 weeks to complete, follows a riverine sediment sampling program that was completed earlier in July. This collaboration between Australian and Brazilian oceanographers, geochemists, geophysicists, and surveyors will deliver the most comprehensive study of its type in this region.
