Hydrobiology’s Graduate Scientist Keisha Desmond was recently awarded for her contribution to Marine Science in Western Australia. Keisha began volunteering with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) Marine Science Program in 2023 as an Environmental Science undergraduate student, and in 2024 was awarded the ‘Young Volunteer of the Year Award’ for her contributions to the program; for her high-resolution macrophotography of over 100 marine invertebrate specimens ranging from polychaetes in Walpole to Antarctic arthropods.
These photos are set to be published in two upcoming scientific papers in collaboration with Dr Ines Leal (Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions), Dr Daniel Gorman (CSIRO) and Dr Thomas Wernberg (The University of Western Australia).
Pictured (below) is Keisha being awarded for her work by the Hon. Reece Whitby MLA, Minister for Energy; Environment; Climate Action, and an example of her incredible work.
