On 6th September 2024, we hosted a highly engaging Decommissioning Workshop focused on water quality and ecotoxicology at the Vibe Hotel in Subiaco. Organised by Hydrobiology in collaboration with AIMS, ANSTO, Atteris, and Intertek, the workshop brought together leading scientists and industry professionals to discuss critical environmental issues surrounding the decommissioning of offshore infrastructure.
Key presentations were delivered by experts including Dr Ross Smith (Hydrobiology), Dr Sander Scheffers (Hydrobiology), Emilien Rulence (Atteris), Dr Rebecca Fisher (AIMS), Dr Darren Koppel (AIMS), Dr Tom Cresswell (ANSTO), and Dr Tristan Stringer (Intertek). Their insights into decommissioning and CCS regulations, material degradation, ecological, economic and environmental considerations, contamination, and ecotoxicity highlighted innovative approaches and cutting-edge research in the field. These insights provided fresh perspectives that will significantly contribute to advancing our understanding and approach to decommissioning challenges.
A big thank you to our facilitator, Shirley Dawe, and all the participants for their invaluable contributions. The discussions were instrumental in paving the way for improved environmental performance in future decommissioning projects.
