Position Overview and Selection Criteria:
As a core member of the team, the Graduate Scientist will report directly to the Technical Lead (Environmental Chemistry) and contribute to diverse and impactful projects. We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and skills:
- A candidate with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science (preferably in Environmental Science, however Natural Resource, Agriculture and Soil Science will be considered)
- Technical support abilities to assist Senior Scientists in undertaking environmental surveys and reporting
- Experience or willingness to participate in field surveys (environmental sampling, data collection and field experimental measurements)
- Strong organizational skills for office-based tasks, including data search/entry/analysis and mapping
- Technical report writing and literature review (guidance and review will be provided by the Technical Lead)
- Bonus Skills: Knowledge of one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: Water/Sediment Quality, Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Mining Wastes Management and Mining Water.
Responsibilities and Benefits:
- Assist Senior Staff with various tasks: data entry, data analysis, data interpretation, mapping and reporting
- Coordinate field work preparation (e.g. equipment packing/freighting and organising travel and accommodation booking) as required
- Perform field work, including undertaking environmental sampling and field measurements (locally and/or interstate and potentially overseas field surveys; often in remote areas)
- Maintain field and laboratory equipment, including maintaining stock levels, ensuring all gear is clean and ensuring instruments are routinely inspected, calibrated and serviced
- Assist with demobilisation of field trips (e.g. cleaning and storing of equipment)
- Standard full time working hours of 38 per week (plus reasonable additional hours when required for field work; with company provided overnight allowance for overnight stays on field work projects)
- Undertake routine administration duties (including timesheet entry, logging of project-related expenses; and
- Adherence the Hydrobiology HSEQ (Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental) policies and procedures at all times
- Provide field-based support to other Hydrobiology departments as required
- Participate in company events when possible (i.e. company meetings with other offices, staff celebration events, knowledge sharing/training, ’lunch and learn’ sessions, teambuilding/social events)
Qualification and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Environmental Science)
- Open Australian Drivers Licence
- Experiences and/or willingness to undertake field environmental surveys and related field work processes (training and guidance will be provided by the Technical Lead and other experienced field staff)
- Knowledge of water/sediment quality, geochemistry, environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, mining wastes management, mining water, pit lake water is highly desirable.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications (Training will be provided by Hydrobiology; if required)
- Fit for Work Medical Certificate and;
- 4WD Driving Certificate (Hydrobiology will cover the training costs; if required)

Our wide range of diverse project work provides staff with opportunities to work in the real environment; getting our hands dirty digging up rocks and dirt, collecting water samples, walking through dense bush, desert terrains, rainforests, creeks and rivers, enabling us to explore some of the most remote and beautiful locations all around the world.
