An exciting opportunity now exists for a Senior Aquatic Ecologist / Environmental Scientist to join our Ecology and Biodiversity Management Team, located within our Brisbane office. Position Overview:
As our Senior Aquatic Ecologist / Environmental Scientist, you will report directly to the Ecology and Biodiversity Management Team Lead / Principal Scientist. You must have previous consulting experience, with scientific data collection knowledge in freshwater and/or marine aquatic systems. The role requires undertaking fieldwork, which may include travel to local, regional and international locations. With a variety of projects underway this role offers excellent prospects for career development, whereby the successful candidate over time, will be able to develop the position to become part of our Management Team. Remuneration will be based upon consideration of current skills, experiences and abilities.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the preparation of field work (e.g. equipment packing/freighting and organising travel and accommodation).
- Lead and manage biological sampling programs (often in remote and inaccessible areas), including fish and invertebrate sampling and aquatic/riparian habitat assessment.
- Provide field-based support to other Hydrobiology departments as required.
- Assist with demobilisation of field trips (e.g. cleaning and storing of equipment) and maintaining laboratory and equipment storage areas.
- Undertake data collection, collation, statistical analysis and delivery of technical reports.
- Assist Managers or senior staff in other departments with the preparation of proposals, reports and other documents as directed.
- Undertake routine administration duties (including timesheet entry, logging of project-related expenses, attendance of weekly office meetings etc).
- Commitment to Hydrobiology HSEQ Integrated management System, including Company policies, procedures and safe work practices.
- Act as a professional mentor to early career consultants and assist with their professional development.
- Assist Project Managers with the delivery of projects, across all stages of the of the project taking accountability for the overall time, cost and quality of delivery.
- Assist in growing the business and driving for a culture of efficient and effective delivery of all projects.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Aquatic Life Sciences (Marine or Freshwater – ideally with an Honours and/or Masters qualifications); and
- A minimum of 3-5 years technical experience, with at least 3 years gained in a relevant environmental consulting role. *(Lesser years of experience may be acceptable with higher educational qualifications)
Essential Skills Required:
- Ability to identify interdisciplinary opportunities and avenues for company growth.
- An understanding of the Consulting Business Model and the drivers of successful project delivery.
- Solid grounding in experimental design and ecological statistics.
- Ability to produce high quality technical reports or publications that are clear and concise, yet pitched at a non-expert audience.
- Ability to lead and manage projects and teams to ensure work is delivered on time and within budgets
- A desire support other technical staff across the company.
- Be willing to travel for field work, often in remote areas; locally, interstate and overseas.
- GIS experience including ArcGIS or similar.
- Driver’s License.
