About the Role:
This is a long-term career opportunity for the right person to:
- Lead technical delivery of marine environmental risk assessments and ecotoxicological studies.
- Design and oversee field and desktop investigations on contaminants, microplastics, and habitat impacts.
- Interpret complex datasets, develop guideline values, and contribute to policy and regulatory guidance.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, regulators, and research partners.
- Publish and present work at national and international forums.
Key Responsibilities
Mentor junior scientists and contribute to business development
Lead and manage marine ecology / ecotoxicology components of environmental projects.
Interpret and design ecotoxicity testing on marine organisms.
Contribute to contaminant fate modelling, risk frameworks, and guideline value derivation.
Prepare high-quality technical reports and peer-reviewed publications.
What You Bring:
Essential:
- Postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in marine science, ecotoxicology, environmental chemistry, or related discipline.
- 8+ years’ experience in marine environmental research or regulatory roles.
- Proven expertise in marine ecology, contaminant pathways, and ecotoxicological assessment.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and standards (ANZG, NOPSEMA, OSPAR, etc.).
- Excellent communication, project management, and client engagement skills.
Desirable
- Publication record in relevant fields.
- Experience in offshore oil & gas decommissioning or artificial reef assessments.
- Modelling skills (hydrodynamics, contaminant fate, particle tracking).
