The “26th International River Symposium” hosted by the International River Foundation was held in Brisbane under the theme “River Revolution: Accelerating Solutions for Climate Resilience.” The symposium was an invaluable opportunity to connect with river practitioners from around the globe, exchange knowledge, and explore innovative approaches to river restoration.
Hydrobiology was proudly represented by Chamantha Athapaththu (Senior Scientist- Land & Water Management Team). Chamantha presented on the topic “Assessing Climate Resilience of Kedron Brook” using Geomorphology and River Styles Framework”. Urban catchments worldwide are increasingly vulnerable to extreme flood events. In his presentation, Chamantha explored how conventional management practices can increase vulnerability to climate change, while emphasizing the vital role of geomorphology in understanding and managing river systems.
