Check out these beauties!
There’s 25 biodiversity hotspots around the globe, including the South West of Western Australia where our Perth office is located. Here’s Joy with one of the largest freshwater crayfish species in the world, the Cherax cainii or Smooth Marron. This particular example measured above average with a carapace of 115mm.
The South West region of WA is under threat from impacts of invasive species, salinity and climate change. Hydrobiology works to ensure changes to sensitive habitats are identified early on, allowing appropriate management solutions to prevent species like this being lost forever.
Happy International Day for Biological Diversity!
