🎤 Hydrobiology was honoured to be featured as a ‘Technical Contributor’ at the Australian Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) Solutions for Sustainable Mining Webinar, recently held on the 3rd April 2025.
🌏 Hosted by Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and Austmine, the event brought together leading mining organisations, partners, and stakeholders from the Philippines and Vietnam to showcase Australia’s cutting-edge METS capabilities.
🐟 Our Senior Environmental Consultant, Danielle Deborde from our Hydrobiology Singapore office, presented on the applications of Environmental DNA (eDNA) in the Mining Sector. His session explored this innovative, non-invasive technique, which offers exceptional sensitivity and cost-efficiency in detecting aquatic species through trace genetic material found in water and sediment samples.
💦 eDNA is transforming environmental monitoring and biodiversity assessment. In the mining context, it holds great promise from identifying species in tailings storage facilities (TSFs) to demonstrating ecological recovery in rehabilitated subsidence ponds, supporting critical processes such as environmental bond relinquishment.
💭 Hydrobiology was proud to present alongside an impressive panel of Industry Experts: Saasha Callaghan (Oleology), Catherine Ansen (EScIS), Paul Radulovic (Glencore Technology), and Will McLean (Clean TeQ Water).
🤝 A heartfelt thank you to our colleagues at Austrade; David Shao, Natalie Coleman, Luisa Rust, and Christopher Morley; for their generous support, and to the wonderful team at Austmine; Sheldon Varcoe, Jolene James, Anne-Marie Cavaco, Renee Kennedy, and Olivia Locke; for their excellent coordination throughout the event.
We’re excited about the growing role of eDNA in advancing sustainable mining practices across the Asia-Pacific region!
